The CAMP program epitomizes the uncommon commitment to undergraduate
education at the University of California, Santa Cruz. By integrating
research and undergraduate education, CAMP creates a cohesive set of
experiences that fully prepares undergraduates for graduate education
and influences career choices. The
summer internship program enables highly motivated students to conduct
original research in laboratories alongside graduate students, postdoctoral
researchers, and faculty. There they can be involved in the creative
processes of truly higher level learning, and they can experience the
multiple facets of becoming part of a research family. CAMP students
then have the opportunity to present the results of their research at
system-wide and national scientific conferences. Consequently, CAMP
students acquire a greater understanding of the importance of their
undergraduate education, which is commonly shown by dramatic increases
in their performance; and CAMP students graduate with the skills and
experience that enhance their careers and potential for graduate studies.
