CAMP Activities


Research Conferences & Symposiums

CAMP provides opportunities for students to participate in a variety of campuswide, statewide and national research symposiums. Many CAMP students have been selected to present and/or participate at a variety of research conferences. Symposiums such as the CAMP National and Statewide Conferences, Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science, Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students, National Society for Black Engineering, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Chemical Society.



 

Engineering and Optics
Short Course

CAMP students majoring in engineering, physics, astronomy, computer science, math or other applicable major are invited to attend a five-day short course taught by astronomers and engineers from the Center for Adaptive Optics. Students learn the fundamentals helpful to be successful with there undergraduate research experience immediately following the short course.
 

 
 

Summer Research Institute

CAMP students in biomedical majors are invited to attend an eight-week summer internship research program along with MARC and MBRS students. Students are introduced to the theoretical and practical aspects of laboratory research. Under the guidance of UCSC's biology and chemistry faculty, students develop expertise in areas that are basic to participation in a research laboratory. Fieldtrips and workshops are incorporated into this institute in order to prepare our students for their research experiences. CAMP students who complete this institute are eligible to begin research in a lab on campus starting the following fall.

 

Study Groups

CAMP students are all invited to participate in quarterly study groups in selected classes that are organized by CAMP staff and led by students. Study breaks are facilitated each finals week to keep up morale.

 

 

GRE Prep and Graduate School Application Workshops.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Workshops are provided for CAMP students that are interested in taking the exam.CAMP students are expected to apply for graduate school the fall of their senior year. Workshops are held to facilitate the application process. These workshops are offered in the summer and during the academic year.
